Editorial Policy

How every guide on this site is researched, written, reviewed, and kept up to date.

Anúncios

LeafyStart is a small, single-author site, but we take the quality of what we publish seriously. Below is exactly how the guides on this site are researched, written, and updated – so you know what to expect every time you read a post.

Who writes here

All guides are written by Maya Holbrook, the editor and founder. Maya is a hobbyist gardener – not a horticulturist or scientist – but every piece of practical advice on this site comes from one of three sources:

Anúncios

  1. Direct personal experience growing the plant or trying the technique.
  2. Verified information from authoritative sources, such as university extension programs (the Cooperative Extension System in the US, RHS in the UK, and similar around the world).
  3. Cross-checked guidance from established horticultural references.

If a guide includes a method we haven’t personally tested, that’s noted clearly in the article.

How a guide is built

The basic workflow for every published article:

  1. Choose a real beginner question. Topics come from reader emails, our own remembered confusions, and recurring questions from gardening forums. We don’t write generic “best practices” posts.
  2. Research. We start with academic and extension sources, then cross-check with reputable hobbyist and trade publications.
  3. Test where possible. If it’s a technique, we try it. If it’s a plant, we grow it (or have grown it).
  4. Write. In plain English, with concrete numbers wherever possible and an honest tone.
  5. Review. Every post is read again before publication – for accuracy, clarity, and tone.

What we will not do

  • Publish auto-generated or “spun” content. Every word on the site is written by a human.
  • Make medical, health, or therapeutic claims about plants. (“Reduces stress,” “detoxes air,” etc. are not claims you’ll see here.)
  • Recommend products we haven’t used or wouldn’t recommend honestly.
  • Cover topics where we can’t add real value – there are better sites for advanced horticulture, large-scale farming, or rare plant collecting.

Corrections

If you spot an error in a guide – wrong watering frequency, an outdated plant name, a broken link – please let us know. We update the article, note the correction date at the top, and credit the reader who flagged it (if they want credit).

Updates

Every published article shows both an original publication date and the most recent update date. We try to revisit older guides at least once a year – to refresh examples, add internal links to new posts, and remove anything that’s no longer accurate.

Disclosure

Articles that include affiliate links carry a clear disclosure at the top. We do not accept payment in exchange for positive coverage. If a brand sponsors a post (rare, and only after a genuine fit), the sponsorship is disclosed both at the top of the article and in the title where appropriate.

Comments

Comments on this site are reviewed before being published. Spam, abusive content, and promotional links are removed.
